You&Me records owned by Josh Baker, has had an astronomical rise the past 12 months with sell out shows in Manchester, a first showcase in Ibiza this year and a fantastic run of releases from the likes of Sidney Charles, Gaskin, M-High and now the latest EP from Kieran Morgan releasing 26thJuly.

The British producer who now resides in Paris has had releases on Whoyostro, Samani, and now You &Me records. The 2 track EP features two tracks, the A side  ‘I Like It’ and the B side “The Disco”. The Manchester based label is known for its bass lines and ‘I Like It’ continues this trend but with a fresh angle. Speaking to Kieran about the bass in I Like it he said, “The bassline began with a sample I found in an old 90s sample CD. I thought this is sick, but it wasn’t in the same pattern as it is now in ‘I Like It’. I picked up my bass guitar and jammed out the riff and then put a basic house beat on my RD9 and ended up with the final pattern. ” When chatting about the guitar playing Kieran commented “I’ve been playing guitar since I was about 13 and bass, I picked up relatively recently… true bass players would look at my technique and be every upset! But if it sounds good, I guess it doesn’t matter”.

Morgan’s assessment is correct, it sounds great. The track is driven with this bassline which is mixed with infectious vocals and acid effects and comes together to create a fantastic peak time house track. Kieran recalled the first time the track got played out at 93 Feet East by Josh Baker and being surprised with the reaction by saying “I really didn’t think this track would break through, but it’s so sick and the response from all the ravers is so good. I’ve had some amazing messages and voice notes from people I’ve never met, just proper ravers!”  The track has now been played all over Europe and by multiple DJ’s including the likes of Max Dean, Gaskin and Candidate.

Baker, the founder of You&Me has also grown with his label and has now recently had a sold-out festival with Hide&Seek, reached number 1 on the Beatport chart, and runs his own music education platform ‘SYNTHO’. The site offers various tutorials to suit beginners or even advanced producers and have tutorials from some of the industry’s best producers such as Sidney Charles, LP Rhythm, DXNBY, Alisha and Baker himself. When discussing how “I Like It EP” came to find a home at You&Me Kieran shared that he joined SYNTHO a while back. “I’d highly recommend this to anyone trying to learn all styles of electric music. I won SYNTHO’s ‘Work It Out’ remix challenge last year and since then I send tracks over to Josh via Soundcloud. I sent ‘I Like It’ and three other tracks and he replied saying ‘I Like It’ is sick and he would play it. Then a week later he played it out at 93 Feet East and then that’s when the wave began. After that Josh asked me to sign it and to start working on a B side.”

When discussing the rest of 2024, Morgan stated he would like to start gigging again after a break to work on his sound in the studio. “I locked myself in the studio for a year to work on my sound and get to a point where I could play a set with just my own unreleased tracks. Release wise… I have an EP scheduled for the end of the year and probably a Bandcamp release for some more house flavours in Autumn. Goal labels that I’m focused on now are Locus, Eastenderz and Hottrax.”
